Organisational mission statement (Misión de la organización)
We aim to catalyse a practitioner movement of organisations and individuals committed to managing and achieving social performance.
Why are you interested in SPM? (Porqué esta interesado en GDS?)
SPM gives us an interesting lens with which to understand the bigger debates within the microfinance industry, and helps practitioners to balance the tension inherent to all social enterprises: sustainability and social impact.
What's your story? (Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got here!) (Díganos su historia - háblenos un poco de Ud. y cómo llegó aquí)
The Imp-Act Consortium was formed as a result of an action-research project which looked at making impact assessment more useful for MFIs. Phase II of the action-research programme set about to work with partners in the field to develop internal systems to provide MFIs with information about their progress towards their social objectives, as well as their financial objectives. In addition, we sought to substantiate a number of core principles surrounding the social performance of microfinance.

Building on these foundations, seven organisations involved in developing the SPM training formed as the Imp-Act Consortium, and launched a activities to scale-up good practice social performance management (SPM) within the microfinance industry. Since then, the Consortium has providing a range of resources to the MFI community, including training of trainers (TOT) and mentoring guidelines, guidelines for the SPM implementation process, produced a practice-based guide to SPM, developed a SPM promotional film and the SPM Network

Dear Katherine,

SPM is new to Sri Lanka. I followed SPM training in India conducted by EDA & then organized SPM training in Sri Lanka. We invited Indian trainers from EDA & i also jointed as a co-trainer for that program.

Now we are planning to impliment two pilots of SPM with two leading MFIs in Sri Lanka. This would be good initiative of SPM prctice in ground level in Sri Lanka.Basicaly GTZ has shown green light to support to develop local capasity on SPM to be implimented these pilots. I am inviting you & others to shere with me your expert eye & practical experience on implimenting SPM with MFIs. As you think what would be the key steps of process of this pilot? Can you/someone share me any reports of previous experience? Are there any potential funders providing supports to this kind of practical initiatives.

Katherine, as i worked as a co-trainer under suppervision of EDA trainers and also i have followed SPM training from EDA, can i get any certification as a SPM trainer? What i should do to be a certified SPM trainer?

Thanks,
Udaya

Hello Katherine,

Thanks for yours. The MF industry is demanding in the south, building own capacities enhances our performance. Uganda is particularly in want, after the closure of FOCCAS Uganda , i have come to learn that in my region, no more MFIs go deep rural, the way to go now is to build the capacities of SACCOs and today that is what i am doing with EPSEDEC the UNDP funded programs. I recently expressed my interest - Integrating social performance into microfinance capacity building. I have not heard any feedback but this would certainly pay off for our clients if we can be considered.
I do wish you all the best in your Maternity.
Cheers,
Juliet

Dear Katherine,

I will be giving a training on SP in about 1 month and I would like to start with the SPM video. Is it possible to download this video somewhere or any other way to obtain a copy?

Hey Katherine!
Thanks for suggesting that I join the community. Our editorial team is currently working on an entire issue of Microfinance Insights focused on Social Impact, so I'm sure you will be a great resource. I would like to spread the word about our new survey focused on social impact. It's intended for MFIs and MFI investors (as well as the consultants that support these groups). The link that anyone can use is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=YLlTUzigYp6eDmbRFzQcww_3d_3d.

Let me know where else I should post this to get visibility on this site.

Thanks!
Lindsay

Hi Katherine,
Thanks for the welcome comment. Yes, we have been working in SPM, supporting our partners to develop it. We have been working with the PPI tool in Peru and soon in Ecuador by now, and also with social ratings of our partners.

Sure! I have been busy trying to build my capacities so i can make a difference in the world. I was in the Hague - NL for my PGD in social security later went to SEWA in Gujarat and KUDUMBASHREE in Kerala - India ( 2006) ofcourse when i returned FOCCAS closed. I then moved on to my master in Italy and Interned with Grameen Bank in Bangladesh - also visited ASA and BRAC. Returned to Uganda 12th November 2008. Now having my fingers crossed but availing my self to do some Consulting specifically in training for MFI clients and staffs. As you know self starting stuff .... so no much as yet.......... Please let me know of any opportunities. I want to go international. Any vacancies at Imp - Act?

Thanks for calling,

Dear Katherine,

Happy to see this network growing by the days, and hope it will be an influential development forum. I just downloaded the 'SPM Practice Guide', a comprehensive resource.

About the ''Imp-Act SPM trainer Certification'' -- can I get details from you?

Dear Katherine,

Thank you very much. Where should I post the notice? I always had at least two weeks in August of "real summer" in the UK, but right now being in Kabul, we would take some rain.

Thanks,

Dale

Hi Katherine,
I know this is sort of nit picky, but in future notices, can you please refer to the Consumer Protection Webinar as a Center for Financial Inclusion event, instead of an ACCION event. Thanks!
Cara
